Banaban Culture

 


The picture above shows the Banaban Traditional Dancing Custom. Dancing with our traditional wear is one of the Banaban Culture.. The Banaban traditional dance was began in the 1945 until today from the day where our ancestors were sent to Fiji Island (Rabi Island).
In Rabi Island, it consists of four villagers where it occupied by the Banaban people. Each Primary Schools have a cession where it called Culture and it means dancing. The main reason why the Banaban dance was put in every school timetable is to maintain and preserve the Banaban culture and is because everyone is bine, where children are so young and easy to learn.


The picture above shows the Banaban female costume. The female costume are made from the followings.
1. Teira is called a pandanus leave. This leave were used to make the neck choker, the dancing bra and the wide collar necklace.
2. Katumaraa in our language is called a shell. The shells were useful in our costume because its used for decorations and dancers use nit as a waist belt.
3.Temaunei is called Bermuda grass. Temaunei were used to make a traditional dancing skirt.
